enquiries with referense to Gazette Fotification No. 19 of the

9th. inst. The proclamation is simply a copy from the London

Gazette. The items that affect the Colony argi-

(a) Steel products- a.g. steel bars, plates de.

(b) Pig iron.

1. The steel products now some almost

andimply from America and are expested shiefly to China and

Indo-China, There are also ossasionally fairly large exports

to Japan. It seems to me that it cannot be intended that this

export should be prohibited, provided always that we are

satisfied as to destination. I would suggest that these produste

be allowed to go forward in the meantime, and that the Sesretary

of state be asked whether it is desired that future exports be

interfered with. (a) in the ease of American or other neutral

origin (b) in the sass of British origin.

I think that the export of present stocks should be allowed under

the usual safeguards, but that the Government of India be asked

whether export may be allowed in future.
